The air around Old Trafford these days feels heavy. It’s thick with disappointment, and Ruben Amorim, the man at the helm of Manchester United, finds himself squarely in the eye of the storm. Each day brings a new wave of criticism, louder and more pointed than the last. With poor results piling up, many big names in football are openly suggesting his time is nearly over. Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher recently weighed in on Sky, calling Amorim’s dismissal “inevitable.”
Carragher didn’t mince words. He believes everyone is just waiting for what seems destined to happen. “No one wants to see someone lose their job, but this situation needs to end as fast as possible,” the former player declared. He offered a thought on why Amorim might still be in his role: Manchester United’s leaders have made so many bad calls, both on and off the field. They probably don’t want to admit yet another mistake by letting the coach go.
One of Carragher’s main points focused on tactics. He’s convinced that Amorim’s preferred system, using three central defenders, simply doesn’t fit with United’s long-standing traditions. This setup, brought to Old Trafford by the Portuguese coach, is a major reason for the team’s struggles, in Carragher’s view. It’s been a tough period for everyone involved.
Ruben Amorim had a fantastic run at Sporting Lisboa, where he seemed destined for greatness. Many saw him as the next top coach. But his system, according to Carragher, never truly aligned with the Manchester United identity. “This has been a disaster for Manchester United and for Ruben Amorim,” he stated clearly. Carragher believes the club needs to make a decision about the manager sooner rather than later. He sees it as the best path forward for everyone involved, reiterating his point that “this was a disaster for the club and for the coach.”
