Carmona prepares for his big opportunity

Spanish boxers are on a roll. Samuel Carmona (8-0-0, 4 KO) has a great opportunity for him this Saturday, December 3 (02:00, DAZN) to become world champion. The Canarian boxer will contest the WBC flyweight world championship against Julio César Rey Martínez (18-2-0, 14 KO) at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

Saturday will be a great day for Spanish boxing. Samuel Carmona will be able to take the world champion belt, an opportunity that does not present itself every day. The WBC ordered the matchup earlier this month at its annual convention that took place in Acapulco, Mexico. The clash between the Mexican Julio César Rey Martínez and Carmona will be the co-main event of the evening that will close the trilogy between the Mexican Juan Francisco Gallo Estrada (43-3-0, 28 KO) and the Nicaraguan Román Chocolatito González (51-3- 0, 41 KO), who will meet again for the WBC super flyweight.

Carmona is clear that he is going to win. The canary, with Carlos Formento in his corner, has remained undefeated since he made his professional debut in 2019. He has an extensive amateur career. He was part of the National Team, was an Olympic diploma and a bronze medal at the European Championships in Ukraine in 2017. In his last two bouts as a professional, he defeated Joel Córdova (13-6-2, 3 KO) and Moisés Mojica (9-17-2, 6 KO) by unanimous decision.

Julio César Rey Martínez is the owner of the WBC flyweight belt since he defeated Cristofer Rosales (34-6-0, 21 KO) by KO in the ninth round in 2019, a few months after Carmona made the leap to professional. Since then, he has defended the title four times and has no intention of giving up the title. He is a very fast boxer with great footwork that will not make it easy for the canary.

Carmona has already traveled to the United States with his entire team to prepare for the big fight. His coach, Carlos Formento, is also clear: “We are going to bring us the WBC World Cup,” he shared. It won’t be an easy challenge, but the Canarian boxer and his team will fight to get the belt.

Sandor Martín also wants the belt

Samuel Carmona is not the only Spanish representative in WBC clashes. Sandor Martín (29 years old) will face Teófimo López (17-1-0, 13 KO) in an eliminator for the WBC super lightweight title. On December 10, the Spaniard will face off against the former unified weight champion at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Teófimo López was going to face the former IBF super featherweight and WBO lightweight world champion, José Pedraza (29-4-1, 14 KO) on that date, but in the end he will not be able to contest the fight due to illness. Sandor Martín (40-2-0, 13 KOs) is on a good run, and has just been proclaimed WBA international champion after defeating the Mexican José Félix by unanimous decision in Barcelona.

December will be the month to make Spanish boxing dream. A World Cup and a tie against great fighters in the United States that make fans in Spain dream. We will have to see if for the national fighters they return with the belts hanging from their shoulders.
