Club Brugge winger Carlos Forbs is set to face his former youth club, Sporting, in a Champions League match, marking a significant moment in a season defined by a surge in his professional career.
The 21-year-old described the upcoming fixture as “special,” acknowledging his past years within the Lisbon-based club’s youth academy.
“I am very excited because it’s an important game. It’s special [facing Sporting]. I played there when I was young, in the youth ranks, so it will be a special game for me,” Forbs stated in a press conference ahead of the match.
Forbs has been in exceptional form, most recently shining in a 3-3 Champions League draw against Barcelona on November 5. In that game, he scored two goals and provided one assist for Club Brugge.
He also earned his first international cap for the Portuguese national team during the last FIFA break, contributing to a 9-1 victory over Armenia. Notably, Forbs wore the number 7 jersey, a number famously associated with Cristiano Ronaldo.
“It was a special moment. It was a pride for me and my family. It’s an iconic number. It was a special moment I will never forget,” Forbs commented on his national team debut.
The Champions League encounter between Club Brugge and Sporting is the fifth matchday of the regular season.
