Carlos Alcaraz, who was forced to withdraw from his quarterfinal match against Jiri Lehecka in the Open 500 in Doha last Thursday, has wasted no time in getting back to training. He has returned to the practice courts, with his sights firmly set on the upcoming American hard-court tour.
Back to Training with a Familiar Face
The Murcian player has been putting in the work on the hard courts of the El Palmar Campo Club, under the watchful eye of Juan Carlos Ferrero. Ferrero will be acting as Alcaraz’s coach for the first two Masters 1000 events of the season, in Indian Wells and Miami. This reunion is a welcome one, especially after Samuel López filled in for Ferrero in Rotterdam and Doha.
Alcaraz’s first stop, however, will be a bit of a detour. On March 2, he’ll be heading to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he’s scheduled to play an exhibition match against American Frances Tiafoe. This friendly encounter will serve as a warm-up for the intense competition that awaits him on the American hard courts.
Indian Wells and Miami on the Horizon
The Indian Wells tournament kicks off on March 5, and just two days prior, Alcaraz will find out who his first-round opponent will be, following the draw. As the second seed in both Indian Wells and the Miami Open, Alcaraz will be looking to make a strong statement, particularly with the absence of world number one, Jannik Sinner. With Ferrero by his side, Alcaraz is gearing up to take on the best of the best in the tennis world, and his fans can’t wait to see him back in action.
