Carlo Ancelotti, first coach to win a trophy in the five major leagues

Carlo Ancelotti became the first coach to lift trophies in the top five European leagues after his Real Madrid won the Spanish league title on Saturday.

The Italian coach had already won championships with Milan in Italy, Chelsea in England, Paris Saint-Germain in France and Bayern Munich in Germany.

“It fills me with pride. I can say that I like what I do,” said the 62-year-old coach. “It means I’ve done quite well. I’m proud. I want to continue winning titles with Real Madrid”.

Madrid clinched its 35th league title by beating Espanyol 4-0, opening a lead at the top that is insurmountable with four games to go.

“We have met a challenge. The season has been spectacular. Lots of regularity. Consistent”, Ancelotti pointed out. “I have to thank the players for their work and their attitude. Today we have to celebrate, not talk. I want to celebrate.”

Ancelotti was Madrid’s manager between 2013 and 2015, but failed to win the league.

During that first stage, Ancelotti lifted the Champions League in Lisbon — his tenth European Cup. He also won a Copa del Rey, defeating Barcelona in the final, as well as a Club World Cup and a UEFA Super Cup.

But he was never able to win the league trophy in those two seasons. Madrid finished third in the first, three points behind champion Atlético de Madrid.

In the 2014-15 campaign, Madrid finished in second place, two points behind Barça.

Ancelotti won the Italian Serie A in 2004, the English Premier League in 2010, France’s Ligue 1 in 2013 and the Bundesliga in 2017.
