At the same time, it is also in the Android operating system where we find greater freedom when it comes to accessing productivity, personalization and entertainment content. Unfortunately, with this openness and huge popularity of the Android platform, the downside of the coin is the constant attacks on unsuspecting users.
At stake is a new wave of attacks perpetrated through seemingly innocuous apps for our Android tablets and mobile phones. Between hackersmafias and organized extortion and fraud groups, the target is millions of Android users.
More than 200 apps with malware at the beginning of 2023
We have already seen a wave of attacks on PayPal accounts this year, with more than 35,000 accounts hacked or otherwise affected by waves of attacks. to hack. Even more recently, we made it known with malware, detected at the time by the security agency SecneurX.
At stake were more than three dozen Android apps, installed on thousands of mobile devices before being removed by the Mountain View giant from its Play Store.
Now, however, according to the publication tom’s guidewe have more than three hundred with similar threats, or worse in many cases.
The apps were available on Google Play Store and App Store
We have a total of 203 apps for Android and iOSpreviously available on the Google Play Store and App Store, which were intended for an illegal purpose.
The objective?
Steal personal information from users, including data from banking applications to access our accounts.
Malware for Android and iOS that aimed to collect bank details
The study was first published by the journal laptop magazine, reporting on the analyzes carried out by the Ministry of Economy and Digital Society of Thailand. This, as well as the UK’s National Cyber ​​Security Centre.
Thus, based on these two sources, investigations and respective reports, now the list of applications with malware that finally aimed to access our bank accounts has been published.
