St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina’s spring training debut has been pushed back another day to give him more time to hone his swing, manager Oliver Marmol said Saturday.
The Puerto Rican expected to be active on Sunday in the game against the New York Mets.
“After yesterday and getting up, he just wants to get his legs back and get some at-bats today,” Marmol said.
Now, the 10-time All-Star is scheduled to make his debut Monday against Houston.
“He feels like he’s playing at home on Monday, so it probably makes more sense,” the manager said.
Molina, 39, missed the first week of what could be his last spring training due to personal reasons.
On Friday, he played his first simulated game against the minor leagues, catching pitcher Miles Mikolas for four innings and going 0-for-4.
