Cardi B Denies $24M Assault, Cites Pregnancy Fear in Court Testimony

The courtroom can be a tough crowd, even for a superstar like Cardi B. The Grammy-winning rapper recently took the stand in a high-stakes $24 million assault trial, and things got pretty tense. According to footage shared by ABC7, which quickly went viral, Cardi seemed to get a bit heated under the lawyer’s questions.

"I was rather at a high level of concern," Cardi, 32, explained on Wednesday, August 27. When the opposing lawyer asked why she felt so worried, her answer was clear and to the point. "Because I was pregnant," she stated. Cardi, who shares two children with her ex-husband Offset, including daughter Kulture, was pregnant with Kulture at the time of the 2018 incident. She famously added, "And this girl is about to break my face. Hello?" from the witness stand.

The lawsuit, filed in 2020, claims Cardi assaulted a security guard. This supposedly happened outside a doctor’s office in Beverly Hills back in 2018. Cardi was waiting for her appointment for Kulture, still in her belly. She has always denied the claims, insisting it was just a verbal argument. The guard, however, is suing Cardi for several things: assault, battery, intentionally causing emotional distress, negligence, and false imprisonment.

During her testimony, the guard’s lawyer asked Cardi if she thought the person suing her was bigger. Cardi didn’t hesitate. "Look," she said, pointing across the room. "I weighed 132 pounds at the time. She was a bit bigger." The judge later cut off more talk about the guard’s weight. But Cardi kept talking about how scared she was that the argument could turn physical.

"At that time, when you’re heavily pregnant, I feel very unable to do things," she testified. "Do you want me to tell you the things I can’t do?… I was pregnant, I couldn’t protect myself even if I wanted to. She is like double my size." Cardi also accused the guard of secretly recording her when she went into her gynecologist appointment.

"I said: ‘F***, why are you recording me? Aren’t you supposed to be security?’" Cardi remembered telling the guard. She maintained that she never once touched the guard. "She’s trying to get money out of me… because she’s suing me for $24 million." Cardi stressed that the whole thing was blown out of proportion. "It was a verbal incident. She didn’t hit me. I didn’t hit her. There was no contact. So, for me, it was not an incident."

Cardi also pushed back against the lawyer’s claims that she insulted the guard, calling her a "bitch" and using other bad words before trying to "hit her." "No, it was a verbal fight," she insisted. "There was no physical contact at all. I didn’t touch her. She didn’t touch me." The trial is set to pick up again on Tuesday, September 2, right after the Labor Day weekend.
