Cardano launches ‘Vasil hard fork’ on testnet

Cardano lanceert ‘Vasil hard fork’ op testnet

It Cardano (ADA) network yesterday passed an extremely important milestone towards the rollout of the highly anticipated Vasil hard fork successfully achieved. The hard fork was successfully launched on the Cardano testnet. With this comes an actual launch on the mainnet from Cardano one step closer.

Cardano Vasil hard fork

Yesterday, the team behind Cardano, Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK), announced on Twitter that the hard fork on the testnet was implemented without any problems. In addition, several ‘Cardano stake pool operators (SPOs)’ were asked to perform extensive testing on this testnet.

The next four weeks will be dominated by this testing process. SPOs will test all the functionalities of the testnet and if everything goes according to plan, the Vasil hard fork launch on Cardano’s mainnet may not be long in coming.

“Once we are confident that the ecosystem partners are comfortable & ready, we will submit an update proposal to upgrade the Cardano mainnet to Vasil.”

What are the benefits of Vasil?

The Vasil hard fork has long been one of the most anticipated updates to the Cardano ecosystem. That has everything to do with the improvements that the hard fork will bring. For example, the capacity of the Cardano network should be significantly increased and the Plutus smart contract scripts get better.

“The Vasil upgrade will also include Cardano cryptographic primitive enhancements (allowing greater interoperability options for other blockchains), a tuned Plutus interpreter, and a new cost model, all of which are part of Plutus V2 scripts.”

Plutus is the advanced smart contract programming language and smart contract platform for the Cardano ecosystem that enables developers to write applications that interact with the Cardano blockchain.

The mainnet launch is expected to begin at the end of this month. Once the mainnet fork is live, Cardano will be able to process transactions at a rapid pace with lower costs and fees.
