Cardano comes September 22 with the long-awaited Vasil update

The founder of the Cardano (ADA) network, Charles Hoskinson, has the final date for launching the Vasil update announced. Actually, Vasil should already be launched in June, but after a long wait it seems very likely that Vasil will really appear on the mainnet.

Date for the Vasil update!

The Vasil update will bring some major changes to the Cardano network. For that reason, the new functionalities also had to be extensively tested. This process did not always go smoothly and for that reason Vasil was also postponed for about three months.

The company behind Cardano, Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK), let us know now that the three critical requirements needed for the update to be deployed on the mainnet have been met:

“1. 75% of the mainnet blocks are created by the latest Vasil node candidate (1.35.3) 2. about 25 exchanges upgraded (representing 80% of the ada liquidity) 3. top 10 DApps by TVL confirmed to have upgraded to 1.35. 3 on PreProduction and be ready for mainnet.”

IOHK also wrote that the largest crypto exchanges are now getting themselves ready for the launch of Vasil. Binance is reportedly almost done with the preparation, while under Coinbase, WhiteBIT and HitBTC are still hard at work at the moment.

September 22

Developers have promised greater scalability and lower cost of the hard fork, which will include the first major upgrade to the Plutus script, which is the programming language used for smart contracts on the Cardano blockchain. Plutus was introduced in the previous upgrade, called Alonzo, which took place in September of last year.

The heavy lifting is now done and Charles Hoskinson said in the announcement that if no major mistakes were made, September 22 will hopefully be a day like any other.

“If we have done our job well, we will wake up on September 22 and it will be a normal day again.”
