A car caught fire on Montevideo’s coastal road, Rambla, near Pagola in Pocitos, around 8 am. The driver was headed to the city center when they had to abandon the burning vehicle.
Traffic Disruption
The fire caused a complete roadblock towards the center until firefighters and police arrived. After putting out the flames, authorities allowed traffic to resume on one lane. One lane remains closed because the burned-out car is still on the road.
The slow traffic resulted in a 30-minute delay for those heading to the center due to a diversion. Traffic is now moving on one lane. The flow of vehicles remains slow. Traffic is normal in the other direction.
Response and Precautions
The Montevideo City Council had urged people to take alternative routes. They also advised drivers to be cautious.
