Canon announces its first virtual reality video production system

Coming later this year, it is Canon’s first virtual reality (VR) video production system.
The photography giant’s EOS VR system will feature a dedicated VR lens and two computer programs.

Canon EOS VR will reach users later this year

Canon’s first virtual reality video production system will be integrated into mirrorless cameras, a lens specially designed for virtual reality, and PC software that will convert image files into a standard virtual reality file.

According to the brand, this system will hit the markets later this year, but it does not yet have a specific date.

The new lens, called RF5.2mm f / 2.8L Dual Fisheye, as the name implies, includes two fisheye lenses capable of capturing 180-degree 3D VR video. The f / 2.8 aperture allows for bright images, while the lens configuration also optimizes the curvature of light rays for a natural effect.

All the functions combined allow the new Canon EOS VR lens to capture 8k virtual reality images at 180 degrees.

Virtual reality file post-production software

To facilitate image processing and post-production, Canon also announced two new software, EOS VR Utility and EOS VR Plugin for Adobe Premiere Pro, which work through a subscription service.

EOS VR Utility allows users to convert images to VR standard and make minor modifications to them, supports 180 degree VR image playback and cropping, and even converts 8K files in different formats and sizes.

In turn, the new EOS VR plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro enables users to perform image editing with popular Adobe video software.
