The curtains have closed on the 78th Cannes Film Festival, which took place from May 13 to May 24 in France. This prestigious event brought together renowned artists from around the world, showcasing notable films and historic achievements. Indian director Neeraj Ghaywan’s “Homabound” received significant praise at Cannes, generating high expectations among audiences.
In terms of awards, India fell short. Neeraj Ghaywan’s film “Homabound,” starring Ishaan Khattar, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor, failed to win an award in the Un Certain Regard section. Additionally, Bollywood actor Anupam Kher’s “Tanvi The Great” also did not receive any awards. This year, India ranked last in terms of awards at Cannes.
Meanwhile, Iraq made history by winning its first-ever award at the festival. Hassan Hadi was awarded the Camera d’Or prize for Best Debut Feature Film for his movie “President’s Cake.” The announcement was met with a standing ovation, with attendees celebrating the achievement. Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi also won the Palme d’Or award for his film “It Was Just an Accident.”
The festival’s closing ceremony took place on Saturday, with several Indian celebrities gracing the red carpet. Alia Bhatt made her debut in a stunning floral gown, captivating the audience’s attention. Bhojpuri actress Neha Malik also attended the ceremony, becoming emotional as she expressed her gratitude to the crowd.
