The Cannes Film Festival kicked off on May 13, and the who’s who of Hollywood has been strutting down the red carpet ever since. But one French actor, Theo Navarro-Mussy, wasn’t among them. He was banned from walking the red carpet after serious allegations surfaced.
The Allegations
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Navarro-Mussy faces rape and sexual assault charges. Three former colleagues have accused him of rape, physical violence, and emotional abuse. Although a court dismissed the initial complaint last month, the alleged victims plan to file a new case.
Navarro-Mussy’s film, “Dossier 137,” directed by Dominique Mol, premiered on May 15. The film’s producers, along with Cannes General Delegate Thierry Fremaux, decided to bar Navarro-Mussy from the red carpet.
A Growing Concern
This move is significant as it’s the first time the Cannes Film Festival has banned an actor due to such allegations. The French film industry is already under scrutiny for sexual misconduct, making this decision a notable step.
