An Andalusian Dog: Unperro Andaluz

Little is said about the outskirts of the Metropolitan Zone and the music scene that is growing there. Curious because there are actually many bands from the State of Mexico that are worth listening to; Several are breaking the paradigm in terms of musical influences and/or sounds that can be complemented.

Background

The pandemic affected many of us mentally. And in that sense, they decided to put together a band to somehow escape the bad times the world was going through, but also to pursue his artistic interests. They released their debut single “Amarillo banqueta” in 2020, with which they made it clear that much of their inspiration was found in the everyday life in the suburbs; of all that the people of Mexico see, who often move to Mexico City to earn a living.

Consolidation of the Band

Soon, Unperro Andaluz joined the ranks of Discos Erizo, a label that has offered promotional space to other projects such as Come and See and Goats, also from Ecatepec and Querétaro respectively, who are also finding a niche to make their proposals known.

What Makes Unperro Andaluz Special

Musically, Unperro Andaluz broadens the horizons of what it means to be an independent band in Mexico. Far from indie-pop, bedroom pop or the new wave of Mexican folk that predominate the indie circuits in the country, the natives of Ecatepec are betting on experimental rock with hints of garage-rock, post-punk, krautrock, among other styles. And all of this serves to tell us, from the irreverence of their enigmatic lyrics, about what everyday life in Ecatepec is really like.
