Canelo and Bivol pass the scale, declare themselves ready to fight

The Mexican Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez and the Russian Dimitry Bivol passed the scale this Friday and declared themselves ready for their fight this Saturday for the light heavyweight title of the World Boxing Association (WBA).

At the weigh-in ceremony, presented by the cognac brand Hennessy, Álvarez weighed in at 174.4 pounds, which he easily reached because he came from 168, while Bivol weighed in at 174.6.

"I like this kind of challenges, expect everything from me as always. I tried to do my best in the ring and we will win. The fans make me feel good and motivate me"”Canelo” explained after getting off the scale.

This Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Álvarez, the best pound-for-pound fighter at the moment, will seek to snatch the unbeaten record and the WBA title from a Bivol with a good punch, against whom he must do everything right to get ahead. .

"I have been in boxing all my life and have won many times, why not do it this time. I focus only on the fight, on putting on a good fight for boxing fans, not on what happens next."Bivol noted.

With 57 wins, 39 by knockout, one loss and two draws, ‘Canelo’ is going through one of the best moments of his professional career and will try to confirm it against a Bivol undefeated in 19 fights, of which 11 won before the limit.

At 31 years old, Álvarez is the most visible face of world boxing and although he has achieved everything in the ring and has founded an economic emporium, he maintains the hunger to go for more. After taking all the belts at 168 pounds he moved up to 175 with the purpose of repeating the feat.

It is likely that if he wins, Saúl will face, perhaps in September, the Kazakh Gennady Golovkin, with whom he drew in September 2017 and won a year later, in a couple of close fights.

Although Golovkin is 40 years old, after losing to “Canelo” in 2018, he added four wins in a row, he maintains his good boxing and promises to be a good fight that would be attractive.

If he succeeds this Saturday, the Mexican will set his sights on the Russian Artur Beterbiev, champion of the World Council and the International Federation, and the American Joe Smith Jr., monarch of the World Organization, with the aim of repeating his feat of 175.
