Candelario hits a home run and helps the Nationals win against the Cubs

Keibert Ruiz hit a two-run homer and went 3-for-3 with a double to lead the Washington Nationals to a 7-5 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Monday.

Jeimer Candelario hit a two-run homer in his return to the lineup and Stone Garrett had two doubles between his two hits. Luis García added two tugboats for the Coleros Nacionales.

Ian Happ and Patrick Wisdom hit two-run homers for the Cubs, who have lost three of four. Cody Bellinger had two hits and Christopher Morel contributed an RBI single.

MacKenzie Gore (5-7) pitched 6 1/3 innings for the win, her second since April. The lefty allowed five runs and five hits, striking out six and walking two.

Kyle Finnegan earned his 12th save and first since May 27.

Drew Smyly (7-7) lost his third straight decision allowing five runs and eight hits in six innings despite striking out seven. The lefty has a 9.86 ERA in his last four starts.

For the Nationals, the Mexican Joey Meneses 5-0. The Venezuelan Keibert Ruiz 3-3 with two runs scored and two towed.

For the Cubs, Panamanian Miguel Amaya 4-1.
