Canal +: the “American Rust” series exclusively on November 25

Inspired by the novel “An Aftertaste of Rust” by Philipp Meyer, “American Rust” sees Jeff Daniels play the sheriff of a small town in Pennsylvania damaged by a homicide case.

The series piloted by Dan Futterman, available in 9 episodes, follows the investigation led by Dell Harris following the murder of a former colleague. Suspect number 1 is none other than Billy Poe, the son of his mistress, Grace. The sheriff finds himself in a delicate position where his feelings for the woman who shares his life threaten to compromise his integrity.

Like the excellent Mare of Easttown, American Rust takes an uncompromising look at this America exhausted by the unwanted effects of globalization, the slaughter caused by the opiate crisis, and the ordinary violence that ensues from it. Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney put their respective talents at the service of this dark thriller centered on characters damaged by life.

Broadcast last September across the Atlantic on the American channel Showtime, the series marked the spirits with a particularly trying final episode. Asked about the possibility of a season 2, the showrunner Dan Futterman clarified that, if this season 1 covered the whole of Philipp Meyer’s novel, a sequel was not completely excluded. “We started to think about it. (…) With the writers, we discussed the direction that the series could take in a season 2 ”, he explains, specifying that the channel had not yet expressed itself on a possible sequel.

American Rust will air on CANAL + starting Thursday, November 25, at 9 p.m., with three episodes per evening. The entire series will be available the same day on myCANAL.
