IPL 2023, strengths and weaknesses of RR

IPL 2023, Rajasthan Royals: The Rajasthan Royals (RR) team came close to winning their second Indian Premier League (IPL) title last year under the captaincy of Sanju Samson. But in the final match, Gujarat Titans spoiled the team’s plans. Hardik Pandya’s team extended Rajasthan’s wait of 14 years by winning the trophy in their debut season. Let us tell you that Rajasthan Royals also won the title in 2008 in the debut season i.e. in the first year of IPL. Now after 15 years once again the team will start its campaign.

IPL Season 16 will start on March 31. The Rajasthan Royals team will start their campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 2. The team will play its seven games away from home. After that, out of the remaining seven matches, the team will play five at home in Jaipur and two matches which the team also has to play in Guwahati. This team led by Sanju Samson is quite balanced. Be it talking about fast bowling, spin department or batting. This team doesn’t have many big names but the players there are very fighters.

What are the strengths of Rajasthan Royals?

The team’s strength is its batting lineup, in which the starting pairing of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler is extremely dangerous. England T20 captain Buttler is on a roll until the 2023 season and is last year’s Orange Cap winner. Jaiswal is also in excellent shape. He scored 396 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at an average of almost 80, while in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy he scored 266 runs at an impressive strike rate of 141.48. The left-handed batsman also scored a century for India A against Bangladesh A.

The team’s middle order is made up of skipper Sanju Samson along with Devdutt Padikkal, Shimron Hetmyer and the talented Riyan Parag. At the same time, Joe Root is also part of the team team. After this, speaking of bowling, the spinning department also started to look strong with the presence of Australian Adam Zampa along with the experienced pairing of Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal. Famous in fast bowling, Krishna is definitely out for the whole season due to injury but there are fast bowlers like Kuldeep Sen, Trent Boult, Obed McCoy, Navdeep Saini who will not let him lose. The side of this team is one of the most balanced in the tournament.

What are the team’s weaknesses?

Now if we talk about weakness, then the team’s mid-order is a bit weak. Nobody is a reliable player except Sanju Samson and Hetmyer. However, in the mini auction, the team had bought England’s Joe Root, West Indies’ Jason Holder and South Africa’s Donovan Ferreira, who could prove to be trump cards. Apart from this, setting up the speed bowling equation can be a pain in the ass. Only four foreigners will play in which McCoy / Holder, Butler, Hetmyer and Bolt Ferreira, Root and Zampa will not be able to play. If Joe Root feeds off strengthening the middle order, then Holder or McCoy may need to be left out. In such a situation, the speed bowling equation has slightly deteriorated due to the injury of the famous Krishna and the team will have to work on it. But the team has a lot of options. In such a situation, apart from the middle order, there is no special weakness of the team.

On the other hand, if we look at the previous record of Rajasthan Royals, the team’s performance from 2009 to 2021 has not been that great. The team won the first season in 2008 and were runners-up in 2022. Apart from this, there is a history of failure on behalf of this team. The team won the title in 2008 under the captaincy of the late Shane Warne, but after that the ride was disappointing until last year. Last year, however, the team finished runner-up. The team has made the playoffs only three times in the history of the tournament and was also suspended for two years. Forgetting what happened, the team under the leadership of coach Kumar Sangakkara and the team led by Sanju Samson would like to achieve success with continued good performance in the upcoming season.
