Portuguese swimmer Camila Rebelo set a second national record in as many days on Thursday, advancing to the semifinals of the 100-meter backstroke at the European Short Course Championships in Lublin, Poland.
Rebelo clocked 57.79 seconds in the 100-meter backstroke heats, surpassing her own national best of 58.14 seconds. Her performance secured the sixth-best time of the qualifiers.
The semifinals for the event were scheduled for 7:52 PM local time in Lublin.
The new 100-meter backstroke record follows Rebelo’s achievement the previous day, where she also broke the national record in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:03.51 minutes, finishing fourth in that final.
Another Portuguese swimmer, Rafaela Azevedo, did not qualify for the 100-meter backstroke semifinals, finishing 23rd with a time of 1:00.30.
In other events, Francisca Martins improved her personal record in the 800-meter freestyle, completing the race in 8:29.16 minutes, down from her previous 8:31.79. She placed 11th in the heats and missed the final.
João Costa narrowly missed qualifying for the men’s 100-meter backstroke semifinals, finishing 23rd with a time of 51.81 seconds, just 0.15 seconds shy of advancement.
Mariana Cunha also came close to a semifinal spot, placing 17th in the 100-meter butterfly with 58.63 seconds, missing out by 0.15 seconds.
Ana Guedes finished 24th in the women’s 100-meter butterfly with 1:01.10 minutes. In the men’s event, Vasco Morgado won his heat but placed 32nd overall with 51.96 seconds.
The Portuguese mixed 4×50-meter freestyle relay team, composed of Miguel Nascimento, Alexandre Amorim, Mariana Cunha, and Ana Pinho Rodrigues, recorded the 13th fastest time with 1:34.61 minutes.
