Cameroon’s football federation has dismissed national team coach Marc Brys just 20 days before the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), citing “11 errors” in his management.
The Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) announced the decision after an emergency board meeting. Brys, 63, will be replaced by David Pagou, who previously coached the Cameroonian club Cotonsport.
Fecafoot, led by former star footballer Samuel Eto’o, stated its intention to foster “a serene climate” for the “Indomitable Lions.” This is aimed at ensuring optimal preparation and participation in the AFCON 2025 tournament.
The continental competition is scheduled to run from December 21 to January 18, 2026, in Morocco.
Brys’s dismissal followed his recent announcement of a preliminary squad that notably excluded prominent goalkeeper Andre Onana and captain Vincent Aboubakar.
Brys had taken on the coaching role in 2024. His departure also comes after the team’s elimination from the qualifying playoffs for the 2026 World Cup.
Cameroon is slated to compete in Group F of the upcoming AFCON alongside Ivory Coast, Gabon, and Mozambique.
