Cameron ruins Taylor’s plans

Chantelle Cameron (18-0-0, 8 KO) ruins the plans of Katie Taylor (22-1-0, 6 KO). The British defeated the Irish by majority decision in her assault on the super lightweight, and retained her undisputed division title at the 3Arena in Dublin. Taylor adds her first defeat as a professional in his first match at home. The venue, which was filled to the brim, could not enjoy his boxer, who was looking to match Claressa Shields and become undisputed champion in two different categories.

Katie Taylor is and always will be one of the greatest, but this has not been her night and she has not been able to continue making history. In front of her public, for the first time in her career as a professional boxer, she has lost her undefeated and failed to wrest the super lightweight belts from Chantelle Cameron. The British, who replaced Amanda Serrano who was going to star in the rematch with Taylor, prevailed in a close fight, by majority decision (95-95, 96-94 and 96-94).

Cameron went all out from the moment the bell rang. He started throwing his hands, and Taylor wanted to mark the distance. The Irish was slow to get into a fight that turned into an exchange of blows. She could tell that she was not adjusting well to the new category. But in the following rounds, he began to impose himself. The assaults were becoming more intense and even. Both ended up exhausted after ten rounds of pure warfare.

Thus adds the first defeat of her career to the Irish, who did not expect not to achieve her goal: to be the second boxer to be proclaimed undisputed champion in two weights (the first was Claressa Shields). The Irish woman is already thinking about a rematch and getting back into the ring to get Cameron’s belts.
