Cambodia Stops Buying Internet from Thailand Starting June 13

Cambodia’s Prime Minister, Hun Manet, announced on Facebook that the country will stop buying internet from Thailand starting June 13. This decision comes after reports of threats from Thai extremists to cut off essential resources.

The threats, posted on social media, prompted Cambodia to take matters into its own hands. Hun Manet stated that Cambodia will now provide its own internet and electricity to avoid any potential disruptions.

According to the post, Dr. Chea Vandeth, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, informed Hun Manet that all fiber-optic network companies and internet service providers in Cambodia will stop purchasing bandwidth from Thailand starting June 12.

Keo Rottanak, Minister of Mines and Energy, confirmed that Cambodia is capable of meeting its electricity needs. Hun Manet has ordered other ministers and institutions to review and prepare for potential additional measures in case of further threats from Thailand.

The decision is a response to the reported threats, which aimed to disrupt Cambodia’s access to essential resources. By taking control of its internet and electricity, Cambodia aims to maintain stability and security.
