Cambodia Retaliates Against Thailand with 7-Day Visa Limitation

Cambodia hits back at Thailand with a new rule. Now, Thais can only stay for 7 days, down from 60. This move comes after Thailand limited Cambodians’ visas to just one week. The change happened after Thai soldiers set new border crossing times.

On June 8, 2023, Lieutenant General Sok Vyrak Na, Cambodia’s immigration chief, said Thais entering the country would only get a 7-day pass. When it’s up, they must leave and get a new stamp. This is Cambodia’s response to Thailand’s new rules.

Thailand had cut the stay time for Cambodians from 60 to 7 days. Thailand also changed border crossing hours to 8 am to 4 pm and limited crossing days. Cambodia didn’t sit back. They changed their hours to 9 am to 4 pm and temporarily closed some crossings to pressure Thailand.

This back-and-forth started due to tension at the border. Thailand’s new rules upset Cambodia, leading to these changes. Now, both sides have new rules, affecting people traveling between the countries.

Border Tensions

The situation at the border is tense. Thailand’s decision to limit crossing hours and days has caused frustration. Cambodia’s response has added to the uncertainty. People traveling between the two countries face new challenges.

What’s Next

It’s unclear how long these new rules will last. Both countries may review their policies as the situation develops. For now, travelers must adapt to the changes. The hope is that tensions will ease, and travel will become easier again.
