Cambodia’s deputy prime minister, Tea Sehah, made a statement. He said Cambodia won’t remove its soldiers from a disputed area. This area is near a building called the Trimoek border office.
Tea Sehah talked to Thai deputy prime minister, Poom tham Wechayachai. They met on June 5. Poom tham asked Cambodia to move its soldiers back to where they were in 2020. That was before a fire damaged the Trimoek building.
Cambodia said no. They claim the area is part of their country. They’ve controlled it for a long time.
Both sides want to reduce tension. They will keep talking and try to understand each other. They don’t want any more fighting.
Cambodia and Thailand have a problem. They can’t agree on their border. The main issue is that they use different maps. These maps have different scales. It’s hard to agree on what they mean.
Cambodia still follows an agreement from 2000. They respect it.
What’s next?
Cambodia and Thailand will keep talking. They will use special committees to solve their problems. These committees include the Joint Border Committee, the General Border Committee, and the Regional Border Committee.
They want to find a solution and keep working together.
