Cambodia’s state-owned electricity supplier, Electricité du Cambodge (EDC), posted a statement on its Facebook page clarifying its current status on electricity imports from Thailand. The announcement asserts that Cambodia is no longer importing electricity from Thailand, contradicting earlier reports that suggested only three border points had been affected.
According to the EDC, the country has sufficient domestic electricity production to meet its current needs. This clarification comes after Thai media reported that Cambodia had only cut off electricity imports from Thailand at three border points, with six other points still receiving Thai electricity. The EDC’s statement rejects any claims that contradict this fact, ensuring transparency on the matter.
Prior to this announcement, Cambodia’s Minister of Mines and Energy confirmed that the country’s domestic electricity production was adequate to meet its current demands. This development highlights Cambodia’s efforts to manage its energy supply and reduce dependence on foreign imports.
