Cambodia Denies Being Cybercrime Hub, Vows to Combat Transnational Crimes

Cambodia is pushing back against claims from Thailand that it’s become a hub for global cybercrime. A spokesperson for Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior says the country is not a haven for cybercrime and is committed to working with international partners to fight cross-border crimes.

The spokesperson, Touch Sothearith, responded to comments made by Thailand’s Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Pruet Boobphakam. Pruet had said that Cambodia was now a major center for cybercrime, particularly for call center scams and illegal online gambling. He also claimed that these operations were supported by Cambodia’s elite.

Cambodia’s government denies these allegations. They say they’re working hard to combat cybercrime and are committed to international cooperation to fight crimes like human trafficking, money laundering, and other economic crimes.

According to reports from Khmer Times, Cambodia is taking steps to strengthen its cybersecurity and work with other countries to tackle these issues.

The dispute between Cambodia and Thailand highlights the growing concern about cybercrime in the region. As more people go online, the risk of cybercrime increases, and countries are under pressure to do more to prevent it.

In an effort to fight cybercrime, Cambodia is expected to increase its cooperation with other countries, including Thailand. This could involve sharing intelligence, coordinating law enforcement efforts, and implementing new regulations to prevent cybercrime.

The situation remains complex, with both countries trading accusations. However, it’s clear that tackling cybercrime will require a coordinated effort from governments, law enforcement agencies, and the private sector.

It’s worth noting that cybercrime is a global problem, and no country is immune. As such, international cooperation is key to fighting it. Cambodia and Thailand must work together to address the issue and prevent further incidents.
