Hold onto your digital wallets, folks, because Call of Duty fans just got some surprising news. The upcoming Black Ops 7 will not let you bring over your character skins from Black Ops 6. This announcement from the development team has quickly become a hot topic among players.
The news dropped in a Call of Duty blog post published on August 26. While the post covered updates and anti-cheat improvements, one detail grabbed everyone’s attention. Character and weapon skins from Black Ops 6 will no longer “carry over” to the new Black Ops 7. The developers stated they want Black Ops 7 to feel more realistic and better fit its game world. Because of this, they decided to keep those older skins out.

This decision is a bit of a head-scratcher for some, especially since players invest time and money into these cosmetic items. It’s not all bad news, though. Other valuable items, like Double XP Tokens and GobbleGums, will still transfer to Black Ops 7. The team explained they understand how much effort players put into earning these. Plus, if you play Warzone, your weapon and character skins from Black Ops 6 will still work there as usual.
This isn’t the first time the issue of “off-theme” skins has come up. Developer Treyarch previously acknowledged player worries about character outfits drifting too far from the game’s original style. They even promised to find a solution to meet player needs. This latest blog post seems to be that solution, though perhaps not in the way some players expected.
You can check out the full details yourself in the official Call of Duty Blog Post from August 26.
