Caleb Ewan wins the fifth stage and Stefan Küng is the new leader

Australian Caleb Ewan, from the Lotto Soudal team, was the winner of the fifth stage of the Tour of Benelux, which was played this Friday between Riemst and Bilzen with a total of 192 km, while the Swiss Stefan Küng (Groupama- FDJ) donned the leader jersey to the detriment of his compatriot Stefan Bissegger (EF Education).

Ewan, who already has six stage victories this season, spent a time of 4 hours, 26 minutes and 24 seconds to beat Italian Sonny Colbrelli in the sprint (Bahrain) and the Dutch Danny Van Poppel (Intermarché), who as they passed the finish line, were second and third, respectively.

The best Spaniard was Lluís Mas (36th), from the Movistar Team, who entered, along with a small group of cyclists, 10 seconds behind those who disputed the stage victory.

In the general there were quite a few changes. Bissegger gave up the leader jersey he wore for three days, losing a time of 5:59 minutes to Ewan on Friday. Another Swiss, Stefan Küng, is the new leader of the Benelux Tour and leads by 2, 6 and 14 seconds to Australian Luke Durbrigde (Team BikeExchange), French Cristophe Laporte (Cofidis) and Belgian Victor Campenaerts (Team Qhubeka), respectively.

The sixth stage of this Saturday, the longest of this Central European round, which will run between the towns of Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve and Houffalize, with a total of 207.6 km, it will have a clearly flat profile with mid-mountain areas, which will be key in defining the general classification before the last stage of this Sunday, with a flat profile.
