Cachín and Báez advanced to the third round at the Masters 1000 in Madrid

Pedro Cachín won Francisco Cerúndolo in the duel of Argentines to settle in the third round of the Masters 1000 in Madrid, an instance to which Sebastián Báez also qualified. Instead, Tomás Etcheverry was eliminated after losing to the American French Tiafoe.

The other Argentine who is still in the race is Báez, who reversed a game that was adverse to him and settled in the round of 16 by defeating American Marcos Girón 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Báez, ranked 31st in the ranking, performed from lowest to highest to surpass Girón (61) after two hours and 10 minutes of play. The ATP champion from Córdoba will now face the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, who beat the Austrian Dominic Thiem 3-6, 6-1 and 7-6 (7-5).
