BYD Sues 37 Influencers for Online Defamation and Monitors 126 More

Chinese automaker BYD is taking a hard line against online harassment. The company says it’s going after 37 social media influencers for allegedly spreading false info and hurtful content. Another 126 accounts are under internal review.

BYD’s legal team made the announcement on the company’s official WeChat account. They claim these incidents are “organized” or “coordinated” attacks. According to Li Yunfei, director of branding and public relations, “we welcome criticism from the media and public, but we won’t tolerate defamatory content or false accusations.”

BYD Offers Rewards for Tips on Online Harassment

The company has a long-term incentive program that offers cash rewards for tips on suspected online harassment. Payouts range from 50,000 to 5 million yuan (around $6,000 to $600,000). This move comes after years of online attacks, including fake news and misinformation that BYD says have damaged its brand image and disrupted the auto market.

BYD has faced repeated online attacks in recent years. Despite some court decisions validating the company’s claims, other investigations are still pending. The company remains committed to using legal action to fight defamatory content and misinformation.

BYD’s efforts to combat online harassment are ongoing.

According to car news sources, BYD’s legal battles are far from over. However, the company is determined to protect its brand and the auto industry as a whole from the spread of false information and online harassment.
