BYD has been showing a strong interest in Europe, quickly rolling out big plans for the continent. Recently, at the IAA Mobility 2025 event in Munich, the Chinese automaker underlined its dedication to the European market. They brought a lot of news, including solid plans for their first factory right here in Europe.
At the Munich show, BYD also showed off its second super hybrid model, the BYD SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING. But the real buzz came from Stella Li, BYD’s Executive Vice President. She shared exciting updates about the BYD Dolphin Surf, a key vehicle for the European market.
This accessible model for Europe recently earned the title of World Urban Car 2025. It also received a perfect five-star rating from Euro NCAP, which tests car safety. These achievements highlight BYD’s commitment to new technology and making safe cars. They also raise the bar for other electric compact cars.
BYD Puts Down Roots in Europe
During an official press event, Stella Li made it clear that the BYD Dolphin Surf will be the first car made at BYD’s upcoming European factory. This plant will be in Szeged, Hungary, and is expected to open by the end of 2025.

This step marks the start of a “Made in Europe, for Europe” production strategy. It solidifies BYD’s presence and dedication to the European market. Li explained that Europe is a very important market for BYD. She found it fitting to announce at the region’s largest auto show that the Dolphin Surf would be the first car from their Hungarian factory.
Li also added that getting the Euro NCAP award and the World Urban Car 2025 title proves their focus on safety and smart technology. This brings clear benefits to customers.
In other news, BYD’s Flash Charging technology will arrive in Europe sooner than planned. The company aims to have 200 to 300 charging stations ready by the second quarter of 2026. The premium brand DENZA will lead this effort.
