Turns out, the world of journalism is getting a tech makeover. Business Insider recently told its reporters they can use artificial intelligence to churn out the very first draft of an article. Here’s the kicker: readers won’t necessarily know that AI lent a hand in the writing process.
This shift comes from a memo sent to employees last week. Jamie Heller, Business Insider’s Editor-in-Chief, outlined the new guidelines. News site Status brought these details to light.
The policy isn’t just about drafting. It also lets journalists use AI for other common tasks. Think of it as another tool in their kit. This includes things like digging up research or even editing photos for their stories.
Business Insider’s own frequently asked questions about this topic shed more light. Staff can use AI for those initial drafts. However, they must make sure the final version is truly their own work. The company also stressed that the writer is still fully responsible for any content published under their name.
There’s a line drawn, though. Business Insider’s website won’t mention AI help for articles that humans heavily edit. But, if a piece is entirely created by AI, or if it skips human review altogether, then a clear message will be added, stating AI was used.
