At least 10 people have died and 42 others injured after a tourist bus crashed into an overpass in the southeastern Brazilian state of Sao Paulo early Friday morning, according to authorities.
Accident Occurs on Highway in Itapetininga Region
The incident occurred on a highway in the Itapetininga region when the bus collided with a support pillar of a viaduct. According to the Sao Paulo state Public Security Secretariat (SSP), 52 people were involved in the accident, with 10 fatalities occurring on the scene.

More than 40 injured individuals were treated at the Dr. Léo Orsi Bernardes Hospital in Itapetininga, with 10 remaining in the hospital in stable condition.

A report compiled by the Sao Paulo state transport regulatory agency suggests that the driver of the bus claimed he was driving normally before a mechanical failure occurred, causing the steering to become blocked. The driver stated he lost control and struck a pillar of the viaduct.
