Bulls will receive Russell and Bruján on the weekly roster; Borg bench coach

Starting this Friday, the Toros del Este will receive important additions to the weekly roster, with the additions of shortstop Addison Russell and utility player Vidal Bruján, both with Major League experience, and in turn announced the well-known Héctor Borg as the club’s new bench coach.

Russell arrived in the country last Monday and the next day he was already training with the group. Bruján began to practice with the bullfighting troop since last Sunday.

“We know that the club’s offense is not at the level expected, but with the injection of these players the lineup should improve considerably,” said Raymond Abreu, general manager of the Toros. “They are very athletic players who can help and make an impact immediately,” added the bullfighting executive.

Russell, 28, had a .348/.443/.677 offensive line with 24 homers, 16 doubles, 72 runs scored, 74 RBIs and 8 stolen bases in 80 games with the Acereros de Monclova in the Mexican League. He played five seasons in the Major Leagues with the Chicago Cubs, with whom he hit .242 with 60 home runs.

Bruján divided his time between AAA and the big team with the Rays. In the best he hit .292 / .369 / .440 with 6 home runs and 26 stolen bases in 63 games. With the Rays he saw action in 52 games, batting .163.

These players will be replacing Jack Reinheimer and Mallex Smith on the weekly roster.

On his side, Borg will be filling manager Pat Listach’s bench coach position. Rafael Rijo remains in his previous role as outfield coach.

Borg was the manager of the Dominican Republic that won the historic bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he is currently Development Coordinator for Latin America for the San Francisco Giants, he has been a manager in different minority circuits for the Californian team and since For 4 years he has been part of the Toros Baseball Operations staff.

Other top players have reported to the Corral and could see action soon with the Bulls, including Major League outfielder Jesús Sánchez and right-handed pitchers Jasseel De la Cruz and Johan Quezada.

The Bulls will play this Friday at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium against the Tigres del Licey, the right-hander Mike Fiers will go up to the box for the bullfighting troop.
