Brooklyn Anderson’s life motto? When life knocks you down, flip back up and smile. She lived those words at the TrackTown USA high school track and field championships in Oregon.
Anderson dominated the 100-meter hurdles, but a stumble at the last hurdle could’ve cost her the win. Not on her watch. A former gymnast, she used her quick reflexes to somersault forward – twice – and cross the finish line first.
This girl’s got skills. We might’ve just found the real-life Sonic.
NEW: 100-meter hurdler wins gold by somersaulting through the finish line after falling at the Oregon state track and field championships in Eugene.
Well deserved.
Brooklyn Anderson, a former gymnast, had a strong lead when she clipped her knee on the last hurdle.

After the race, Anderson said she just wanted to win. “I had no idea how far behind my competitors were,” she explained. “I just knew I had to keep going because I wanted to win.” Her determination paid off.
