A plane crash in Ahmedabad, India, has left only one survivor. The Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was headed to London when it took off from Ahmedabad airport at 1:39 pm. Barely a minute later, it crashed.
The sole survivor, Viswach Kumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old UK citizen, was sitting in seat 11A. He’s currently in the hospital, being treated for his injuries. Ramesh showed his boarding pass to confirm his identity and seat number.
Ramesh recounted his horrific experience, saying the plane was in the air for about 30 seconds when a loud noise was heard, and then it crashed. “Everything happened so fast,” he said.
The plane was carrying 230 passengers, including 169 Indians, 53 Britons, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian. The flight was operated by experienced pilot Captain Sumit Sabharwal, with over 8,200 hours of flying experience, and co-pilot Clive Kundra, with 1,100 hours of flying experience.
This disaster is considered the deadliest single-aircraft accident in Indian history.
