Britain’s new prime minister is richer than his king

A new Prime Minister has been appointed in the United Kingdom to succeed Liz Truss: Rishi Sunak. Born in 1980 to Pakistani parents who had immigrated to the UK, the new British leader turns out to be… richer than the crown, reports The Guardian, relayed by Capital.

The conservative head of state and his wife, Akshata Murty, have a fortune estimated at 730 million pounds sterling (about 837 million euros). This is more than double the fortune of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla, estimated at between 300 and 350 million pounds sterling (between 345 and 400 million euros).

Several official residences

Rishi Sunak is listed in the ranking of Sunday Times of the wealthiest people in the UK. The new Prime Minister has, in addition, four official residences (almost as many as the king), including the family home occupied during the week in Kensington, west London, and a Georgian mansion in North Yorkshire where the couple and his two daughters go away at the weekend.

Rishi Sunak built his fortune by working for the famous investment bank Goldman Sachs and for several hedge funds. However, he owes a large part of his wealth to his wife, heiress of an Indian billionaire. His money has been controversial several times, his fortune being compared to the inflation in the country and the poverty which affects many inhabitants hard.
