Britain’s big decision on the Pfizer vaccine

According to international media reports, British vaccination advisers have suggested that people between the ages of 16 and 17 should also get vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine.

The UK’s Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI) said it was concerned about slight changes in the spread of the disease among youth groups and preliminary data released last month on the latest available immunization data.

The committee said that after considering the most recent data, we recommend that healthy 16-17 year olds get the first dose of Pfizer-Biotech, but when the second dose of the vaccine should be given. Advice on this will be provided later.

According to the committee, a single dose of the vaccine is expected to protect against serious illness and hospitalizations.

The joint committee upheld the earlier suggestion that children between the ages of 12 and 15 should be vaccinated with certain health conditions.
