A bridge under construction collapsed in the town of Bhagalpur, India, on Sunday afternoon. The captured images showed two parts of the bridge collapsing one after the other; and so far, no casualties have been reported. The Aguwani Sultanganj Ganga Bridge was being built in the Bihar region, the cost of which was estimated at 1,717 million rupees (20.83 million USD).
The collapse occurred around 6:00 p.m. Sunday. The state chief minister, Nitish Kumar, ordered an investigation into the incident and requested the identification of those responsible for the collapse. A local government report has been requested.
At least part of the bridge has reportedly collapsed into the Ganges River. The bridge had also sustained some damage in April due to a storm. The middle part of the bridge was being built over the Ganges river between Khagaria, Aguwani and Sultanganj. A part of the work had also collapsed two years ago.
