Christian Yelich and Kolten Wong homered for the second straight game, Garrett Mitchell drove in two runs on his first hit as a major league player, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 9-7 on Sunday.
Mitchell, Milwaukee’s first-round pick in the 2020 draft, debuted Saturday as a defensive replacement after being recalled from Triple-A Nashville, where he was batting .343 with nine RBIs in 20 games.
The 23-year-old outfielder flied out in his first at-bat, in the third inning. Mitchell then hit a two-run single in the next inning off Sean Newcomb (2-1) to put Milwaukee ahead for good, 3-2.
Yelich continued the attack by hitting an 0-1 fastball over the far left-field wall, his 11th home run of the season, and Wong added another two-run homer in the fifth inning to give the Brewers a 7-4 advantage.
Eric Lauer (10-5) allowed four runs in five innings, Nico Hoerner hit a two-run homer in the fifth.
For the Brewers, Dominican Willy Adames 5-2 with two runs scored. The Venezuelan Omar Narváez 4-1 with a run scored.
For the Cubs, Dominican Franmil Reyes 4-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Brazilian Yan Gomes 3-0 with an RBI. The Venezuelans Willson Contreras 1-0, Rafael Ortega 2-0. Puerto Rican Nelson Velázquez 2-0.
