Brenda Castillo, the queen who shines the most in the volleyball team

Coach Marcos Kwiek highlights with great words the excellent quality of Brenda Castillo and also her importance in the national volleyball team.

“I have the privilege of being Brenda’s trainer. The coaches envy me for that situation”, said Kwiek, who took over the reins of “The Queens of the Caribbean” in 2008 and has seen it grow and accumulate awards from the main tournaments organized by the FIVB from the junior category to the senior category.

Among the many awards that it has in its showcase, the Best Libero of the “London 2012” Olympic Games stands out.

What is one going to say about Brenda?”, asked the qualified Brazilian coach when his opinion was requested on the stellar libero after a victory of the Dominican team in straight sets against the United States in the Final Six Norceca Volleyball.

“Brenda Castillo is the key figure of the team,” said Kwiek, leader of a group in which Brayelin Martínez and Bethania de la Cruz, two of the main balloonists, stand out.

“Not only because of the figure she is, because of her leadership, because of her charisma, all the girls love her, but because of the technical part,” she argued.

He pointed out that the native of Haina organizes very well the defensive facet of a group that since its relaunch in 1994 has had as an Achilles heel the difficulties of most of its members to carry the pass.

He indicated that the considered best libero in the world guarantees defensive security because she does not limit herself to covering her area, but often does the work of two and even three teammates because her movement and intuition allow her to protect them.

He indicated that the presence of “Chin Chin”, as this little girl who shines in a field of giants has been nicknamed, gives her a lot of peace of mind because she organizes the game and even does more of the work that she has to do because of the extensive area she covers.

Kwiek stated that having their services is a “plus” and then pointed out that the group has Yaneiris Rodríguez and Larismar Martínez, two other good players in that position who have already been tested and won prizes in demanding international tournaments.

He expressed that both have a good level, but that they do not receive more opportunities because Brenda is an extraordinary player, who does not seem from this planet.

Shara Venegas, her peer in the Puerto Rico team, is not far behind in her praise for the consecrated Dominican athlete.

“She is a goddess, a queen. I love watching her play”, emphasized the also petite Puerto Rican libero, who like Brenda is 30 years old and has remarkable defensive skills, which led her to snatch the awards for Best Libero and Best Defense in the Final Fix, which took place on April 4, to the tenth of this month at the Ricardo Gioriber Arias Volleyball Palace.

“It is admirable to see her, I like her game. I have learned a lot from watching her and others that I consider among the best in the world, declared the Toa Baja native.

The team has been in the Netherlands since last week and in his debut he beat South Korea 3-0 in the opening of the World Championship.
