Brazilian Weapons Link to Mysterious Escape in South America Unfolds Slowly

A member of the Brazilian faction “Hands” was apprehended in a residence located in the Ayuí neighborhood of Artigas. This individual had previously received assistance from other members of the same group to escape from a clinic in Quaraí and cross the border.

Recently, this person was given a three-year prison sentence for their involvement in international weapons trafficking.

A Uruguayan man who aided in the escape was sentenced to 12 months in prison due to repeated offenses of contempt. The owner of the house where the Brazilian faction member was hiding received a sentence of six months of supervised freedom for their role in covering up the crime.

All three individuals are connected to the Brazilian criminal faction.

Details of the Operation

According to Artigas Police Chief Alessandro Alves, the swift actions of local authorities and the Quaraí military brigade were instrumental in the operation. He provided an explanation of the events that transpired.

During the operation, law enforcement seized a shotgun and a short weapon.
