Canabarro was confirmed as the world’s oldest living person by LongeviQuest, a group that tracks supercentenarians, in January.

Early Life

Born on May 27, 1908, Canabarro came from a family with a notable history. Her ancestors included a prominent Brazilian general from the post-independence era. Canabarro became a nun and teacher during her teenage years and later worked in Montevideo, Uruguay. She eventually returned to her hometown and made it her permanent residence.

World’s Oldest Person

Following Canabarro’s death, the title of the world’s oldest person has passed to Ethel Caterham, a 115-year-old English woman. Caterham recently spoke to The Sun, a British tabloid, about her life. She enjoys yoga and cherry juice. Caterham played bridge until she turned 90. Her secret to a long life? “Don’t fight with anyone.”
