Brazil: suspect in the murder of her husband, a deputy was removed from office

The Brazilian Congress removed from office this Wednesday, August 11, the deputy and evangelical leader Flordelis dos Santos, accused by the courts of having ordered the murder of her husband in June 2019.

The parliamentarian, elected in 2018 under the label of the Social Democratic Party, and known by her simple first name, was excluded after a vote of 437 votes in favor and 7 against.

This 60-year-old woman is accused by the Rio de Janeiro courts of having orchestrated the murder of Pastor Anderson, 42, with the complicity of seven of her approximately 50 children, biological or adopted, as well as a granddaughter, for reasons of money and power.

Flordelis was released due to his parliamentary immunity. However, as of October 2020, the courts forced her to wear an electronic bracelet.

It was one of his biological sons, Flavio dos Santos Rodrigues, who killed Anderson with thirty bullets in the garage of his home in Niteroi, near Rio. In total, eleven members of the family will be brought to justice.

Previously, Flordelis reportedly tried to poison her husband’s food or drink at least six times.

Born in the “Rio de Jacarezinho” favela, Flordelis met Anderson in 1994. Together, they had four children and adopted around fifty vulnerable babies, children and adolescents.

His story was the subject of a film in 2009, a mix of documentary and fiction, with several famous actors from the influential television Globo.
