Brazil is set to become a bigger player in the global tech scene. TikTok plans to build a major data center in the country. Construction for this new facility should begin in the next six months.
This project is expected to draw in at least 50 billion Reais in new investment. Alexandre Silveira, Brazil’s Minister of Mines and Energy, shared this news. He believes Brazil is well-positioned to attract more data center investments.
A big reason for this appeal is Brazil’s vast renewable energy resources. The country has plenty of green power. This makes it a great spot for data centers, which use a lot of electricity. Reports had previously outlined these plans for the new center.
The data center will likely be built in Ceará state, in Brazil’s northeast region. It will be located at the Pecém industrial and port complex. This effort is a partnership between ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, and Casa dos Ventos. Casa dos Ventos is a company that develops wind power plants.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is working to bring more such projects to Brazil. Last month, he signed an executive order. This order offers tax exemptions to encourage similar investments across the country.
Progress on the project is already underway. In May, Casa dos Ventos announced it had received two key approvals. These steps clear the path for the TikTok data center to move forward. Brazil is actively combining its growing tech sector with sustainable energy solutions.
