Heavy Rains Affect the North Coast and Great Florianopolis Regions
The North Coast and Great Florianopolis regions have been experiencing severe weather conditions since Thursday. The heavy rainfall in these areas has surpassed 200 millimeters, affecting major cities such as the capital of Minas Gerais, Balneário Camboriú, Itajaí, Itapema, Tijucas, and Governor Celso Ramos.
State of Emergency and Displacement of Residents
As of Friday morning, seven cities have declared a state of emergency due to the severe weather conditions. Over 781 residents have been left homeless, and more than 100 people have been displaced.
Infrastructure Disruptions and Service Suspensions
The municipalities in the affected regions are dealing with floods, landslides, and fallen trees, resulting in the suspension of essential services such as energy supply and public transportation.
Closure of Major Roads and Highway Disruptions
The heavy rainfall in the state of Santa Catarina has led to the closure of critical roads, including BR 101, a major highway in southern Brazil.
BR 101 Closures and Interruptions
BR 101 is one of the most affected roads, with a complete closure at kilometer 138 due to flooding. Additionally, marginal roads along BR-101 have experienced interruptions at key points, such as kilometer 132, which serves as the entrance to Balneário Camboriú.
Incidents on BR 101
A large crater caused by the heavy rainfall has engulfed a car and a motorcycle on BR 101. The concessionaire responsible for the route is working to repair the damage at full speed, given the high volume of tourist traffic in the area.
