Brazil appointed an interim coach until they wait for Ancelotti for Copa América 2024

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced that Fluminense coach Fernando Diniz will take over as Brazil’s interim coach for one year in the place of Ramón Menezes, U-20 coach who had been in charge after the resignation of tite. But the most important thing is that he confirmed that the Italian Carlo Ancelotti will be the coach in the Copa América in 2024, after he ends his current relationship with Real Madrid.

“Fernando Diniz is going to lead the destinies of the Brazilian team for a year and I am sure that he will be very competent, as he always was in his professional career. We are convinced of that,” said the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, in a video published by the entity. The particularity is that he will be allowed to continue in his position as coach of Fluminense, a team that is classified for the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores.

The extension of the contract is only one year since it is expected that Diniz will act on an interim basis until the arrival in Brazil of the Italian Carlo Ancelotti, the CBF’s favorite to assume command of the team and whose contract with Real Madrid ends in mid- 2024.

Rodrigues explained that the Confederation has accompanied Diniz’s innovative work since he took command of Audax and that it appreciates the different way he has to train players. “I am sure that he will know how to apply all that work and his competence in the national team and that he will be well received by all the players,” the manager remarked.

In the same video, Diniz said he was honored by the mission he will carry out and mainly stressed that the contract with Canarinha will allow him to continue as Fluminense coach. “It is a dream for anyone, an honor and a huge pride to be able to provide this service to the Brazilian team,” he said. “It will be a joint effort between the CBF and Fluminense and I am convinced that we are going to make this work and that we are going to achieve results,” he concluded.

The coach assured that he already had some of the national team players under his command, such as Bruno Guimaraes and Antony, and that he has accompanied the work of the new generation of Brazilian soccer players both in Brazil and in Europe. In statements to Globo television, the president of the CBF affirmed that he chose Diniz for his philosophy similar to that of Ancelotti, since he took for granted the arrival of the Italian coach in Brazil in the middle of next year.

“There are very good coaches in Brazil and we chose Diniz for his work, which we understand to be innovative since he was the coach of Audax. Later he went through other clubs where he maintained the same philosophy of play. He always had the same method and we liked the way in which he renewed the tactical applications”, said the leader. “He is a coach with a game proposal very similar to that of the coach that he will take over from the Copa América: Ancelotti. They have almost the same game proposal,” he said.

Despite the fact that the hiring of Diniz depended on finalizing some details, including whether the coach will assume any role under Ancelotti’s command, the CBF reported in a statement that the coach will be officially presented as Brazil coach on Wednesday at the CBF headquarters. . Diniz will debut as a Canarinha coach next September, when Brazil will face Bolivia and Peru for the South American Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

Brazil has been without a coach since December last year when Adenor Leonardo Bacchi, better known as ‘Tite’, said goodbye as coach after the elimination in the quarterfinals of the Qatar 2022 World Cup against Croatia. Ramón Menezes, who will now return to concentrate exclusively on the under-20s, commanded the team as interim in three games, in which he only managed a victory against Guinea, since in the other games Brazil ended up defeated by Morocco and Senegal.
