Boxing: Canelo Alvarez and Golovkin, chapter 3 in Las Vegas

If the first two were good, the third should be better. This is the promise that the Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and the Kazakh Gennady Golovkin they make him the boxing of the world. Both world champions will meet at midnight on Saturday again at the T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in the third chapter of a trilogy full of emotions and controversies. In 2017 they tied and in 2018, “Canelo” won and in both cases, the rulings were for discussion. Now The four versions of the super middleweight title will be at stake (Association, Federation, Council and Organization) in a great boxing show and a new tribute to the Aztec culture that ESPN will broadcast from 22.

“Losing is not even an option for me,” Alvarez said upon arriving at the Nevada state capital, where on May 7 last he bit the dust of defeat by losing by points against the Russian Dimitri Bivol in dispute of the championship of the medium-heavyweight of the Association. It would be a big hit for his career 57 wins (39 knockout), two draws and two losses and for the boxing business of which he is master and lord that the red-haired Aztec falls again before Golovkin. But that card is in the deck, although at 40 years old and in the final stretch of his career, the Kazakh knockout player is no longer the same as before. Still impressive though his record of 42 wins (37 before the limit), a draw and a setback. Y In his last fight, on April 7 in Saitama (Japan), he knocked out the local Ryota Murata in 9 rounds, regained the Association’s middleweight title and confirmed that his punch retains the anesthetic power.

The 2017 edition was even. Alvarez started and closed better and in the middle, he sent GGG who put continuous pressure on the Mexican but missed too many shots. In 2018, the juries gave “Canelo” the winner when hardly anyone had seen him like this. The trilogy was imposed to make it clear who of the two was the best. But the comings and goings of the television networks and then the coronavirus pandemic delayed the fight, perhaps more than necessary. The time has come. And the Mexican and the Kazakh are ready to get into the ring in Las Vegas and decide who fits four world champion belts around his waist.
