Boxer Jeanette Zacarías dies after five days in a coma

Mexican Jeanette Zacarías died this Friday in a hospital in Montreal (Canada) at the age of 18. The fighter had been admitted since last Saturday after fainting moments after being knocked out by local Marie Pier Houle.

The match was played at the IGA Stadium in Montreal. Almost in the final moments of the fourth act, Zacarías received a severe punishment against the ropes by Houle, which caused the referee of the contest, Albert Padulo Jr., to stop the fight (it was agreed to six rounds). As Houle celebrated his victory, the Mexican fainted and began to convulse. She was quickly taken to a hospital where she was sedated to try to get him to recover from his brain injuries, his promoter, Yvon Michel, told ESPN.

Unfortunately, and despite the efforts of the health workers, Jeanette Zacarías could not overcome her injuries and died at dawn this Friday. The fight last Saturday was the first of the Mexican outside her country. In his professional career he had won two bouts and lost four. His last fight had been in the month of May (thus breaking a two-and-a-half-year break without boxing), when she was knocked out by Cynthia Lozano in the sixth round of her fight in Reynosa (Mexico).
